Kia maanu kia ora water safety

This is a dryland learning stream, conducted in the classroom or local environment. It doesn't involved students getting wet.

Water safety and awareness is a deep and involved subject area. The subjects covered here include students identifying different bodies of water and environments in Aotearoa and in their local environment, learning place names of bodies of water, dangers and hazards across various water environments,  floatation and traditional methods of keeping safe in the water and safety rules.

These topics have Health and PE, Technology and Social Studies as minor curriculum foci, if they're not already the major curriculum focus and are well placed within the Te Aho framework of teaching at a Kura Kaupapa in Aotearoa. Read our Unit Plan of learning template here
