Draft Unit Plan - Tikanga Haumaru-ā-Wai

A draft unit plan has been developed as a template for kaiako which focuses on a learning programme for tamariki at Te Kura Kaupapa o Ngā Mokopuna, Seatoun, Whanganui a Tara, Wellington. Learning of water safety competencies in the water is additional to this work and not included in the Unit Plan.

Te Kura Kaupapa o Ngā Mokopuna is a Te Aho Matua kura, and is situated on the waterfront known as Te Maraenui a Kupe (on Seatoun Beach).

The draft unit plan is an example only and provides a starting point for kaiako to commence a learning programme that is holistic and organic in nature, that provides tamariki with the ability to lead their own learning and development through observation, investigation and questioning.

The unit plan has been developed within the Wai Puna framework and Te Aho Matua principles in mind, and will organically manifest through the use of whakapapa, mātauranga (knowledge), tikanga (correct processes and procedures), wānanga (discussions), pakiwaitara (stories), waiata (songs) and moteatea (laments) with the learning objectives and outcomes decided by the teaching group or syndicate.
